Photography, especially landscape photography, has been an almost lifelong hobby for me. I think I was 12 or so when I first started out with a little Kodak Instamatic. Since then, I have worked in my home country of the Netherlands, then Suriname in South America, and since 1988, in the US, mostly in California.

  

While I may go out on a photo trip with a specific purpose in mind, the reality is that I simply enjoy being out in a beautiful area—even if I don’t get any shots, I still have a great time.

    

It’s only relatively recently that I have started exploring the capabilities of digital photography in a more serious capacity. One of the things I try to accomplish as a photographer is to convey to viewers the beauty I see and feel in these places, and those tools seem to help with that. Often, they allow me to further highlight just what struck me about the place to begin with. Sometimes, it’s even as simple as switching from color to black and white.

   

For me, part of the pleasure is in the hunt for a good photo. It’s always very satisfying to get the shot I was looking for, even if it took many trips to get it. For that reason, you will not see any AI generated content here, as that would defeat the purpose for me.

   

I still work full-time at a startup in the San Francisco Bay Area developing treatments for chronic diseases, which means my current portfolio is somewhat limited, but I am sure it will grow over time. At this point, I have not yet set up any print or sales capabilities, but that may come someday as well.

   

Right now, I would just like to share with you the beauty of some of the places I have visited, and I would love to hear your comments.
